The ESM-3 is an environmental sensor that relays data via SDI-12 communication protocol. If the sensor is not being registered to the controller or no data is being seen from the sensor itself, try the following troubleshooting steps below:
Ensure your product can utilize the ESM-3
The ESM-3 is compatible with Connect Controllers and ESP Precision Irrigation Controllers. Older PIC’s such as a Photon PIC are not compatible with the ESM-3.The pictures below can help one visually confirm that the product you are using supports the use of the ESM-3:
Photon PIC = X Not Compatible
ESP PIC = √ Compatible
Connect Controller = √ Compatible
Check Terminal Connections
If the controller being used is an ESP PIC or a Connect Controller and one is not seeing data from the connected ESM-3, the next step to check is that the ESM-3 is wired correctly.
Depending on the SDI-12 cabling received, there are different terminations that one would utilize. The list below goes over all possible SDI-12 cabling one can receive for the ESM-3 and relevant wiring terminations to be made:
If you have Brown, White, and Blue Wires: Brown is +12VDC, white is signal, blue is ground.
If you have Black, Brown, and Blue Wires: Black is +12VDC, brown is signal, blue is ground.
If you have Black, Brown, White, and Blue Wires: Black is unused, brown is +12VDC, white is signal, blue is ground.
If you have Green, Black, Brown, and Blue Wires: Green is unused, black is +12VDC, brown is signal, blue is ground.
Check Firmware Version
Depending on the age of your controller, the Controller may be on an outdated firmware version that is not able to detect the ESM-3. Reaching out to our Support team at Support@Growlink.com would allow our team to confirm if your controller is or is not on the latest firmware. All Connect Controllers are able to detect ESM-3’s out of the box.
Offsetting Sensor Readings
The Temperature, Humidity, and CO2 sensor readings on the ESM-3 can be offset within the Mobile App and Web Portal to closer match a third-party sensor. The resource below will illustrate how one can offset the sensor readings accordingly:
Portal 2.0:
The Lux sensor readings on an ESM-3 are not able to be offset, but there are a number of light level preferences within the preferences tab one can set to closer match the Lux readings reported to the type of lights in use.
Warranty Info:
Sensors sold have a warranty of 1 year from the date of receipt or date of registration, whichever occurs first. Further warranty information can be found at the link below:
