Wifi Setup Guide

Connecting WiFi-capable controllers via the Growlink Mobile App

Inside the Growlink Mobile App, there is an 'Update Controller WiFi' function that one can use to connect your WiFi-capable controller to your local network.

The Update Controller WiFi function can be found within the settings menu of the Mobile app, and is utilized to connect or reconnect a controller to a network:

Within the Update Controller WiFi function, we will select the 'Get Started' button under the Set Up a WiFi Device section:

Note: Please ensure that your device is in listening mode before pressing the 'Get Started' button, which is indicated by a flashing blue status light. Holding down the setup button on the controller for 5 seconds will place the controller into listening mode.

In the next step, the Mobile app will check for nearby devices to pair to.

Select the controller you wish to pair with. Note that in order for the Mobile App to detect nearby devices, the app requires access to your location, access to utilize WiFi, and access to utilize Bluetooth depending on the model of controller being connected.

When selected, a prompt will confirm if you wish to pair with the particular controller. Accept this prompt:

Once selected, a confirmation message will appear if you’ve successfully paired with your controller:

If one is using an older Photon device that utilizes WiFi to pair with your device instead of Bluetooth like newer ESP devices, there is a toggle at the bottom of the page that allows the user to use the Legacy Setup method for the older photon devices instead.

After pairing with your controller, hitting the next button will move the wizard onto the next step, which is connecting the controller to a nearby WiFi network:

Note that Growlink controllers can only connect to 2.4GHz networks, and 5GHz networks will not display as an option to connect to within the Mobile App.

Once the desired network has been selected, one must put in the password for that network:

If the controller is able to connect to the network with the provided password, the controller will register to your account and you will be prompted to name the controller if it was not already registered to your account:

Device not connecting

If an incorrect password is input or the controller is receiving too weak of signal strength from the nearest Access Point, the following error message will populate at the end of the Connect a Controller function:

"Your Wi-Fi configuration has been updated, but your Controller does not appear to be online. It's possible the Wi-Fi credentials you entered were incorrect, or there is an issue connecting to the internet.

Please verify that your controller is blinking blue. If it is not, please hold down the setup button for 5 seconds to return to listening mode.

Once in listening mode, you can press the button below to begin the setup process again."

The most common cause of this error is an incorrect password or too weak of a signal strength between the controller and the nearest access point, so trying again, ensuring the password is correct, and potentially moving the controller closer to the nearest access point  will resolve most issues with this final step.
